Make A Schedule
Setting up a schedule is the first step to keeping your kitchen clean all week long. I recommend picking one day a week when you can dedicate a couple of hours to a deep clean. I find Sunday afternoons work best for me. I put it on my calendar so I don’t forget or get too busy with other things.
Having a set time helps me stay on top of all the cleaning tasks I need to do. I also don’t let the chores pile up during the week and get overwhelming. I break the cleaning down into more manageable chunks.
Here are some tips for making a cleaning schedule:
- Pick a day and time that works best for your life
- Write it on your calendar or set a reminder
- Have set tasks to complete each week
- Don’t let the cleaning pile up
- Stick to your schedule as much as possible
Deep Clean The Kitchen
My weekly deep clean tackles all the problem areas and detailed cleaning I don’t get to during my quick daily tidies. Here is what my deep clean checklist includes:
Clean Inside Appliances
- Wipe down the microwave inside and out
- Clean the oven and stove with appropriate cleaners
- Empty, clean, and sanitize the fridge and freezer
- Descale and disinfect the coffee machine
Clean Counters and Sinks
- Use a non-toxic cleaner and scrub the kitchen counters and island
- Clean the sink with baking soda and vinegar
- Scour stains and shine the faucet fixtures
Sweep, Mop, and Vacuum
- Sweep and mop tile floors
- Vacuum carpets, rugs, and corners
Organize Pantry and Drawers
- Take stock of pantry items and donate or toss expired goods
- Wipe down shelves
- Organize utensils, pots and pans, and containers
Dust Surfaces
- Use a microfiber cloth to dust top of cabinets and appliances
- Clean mirrors, windows, and light fixtures
Quick Daily Cleans
To maintain the deep clean, I also do lighter quick cleans each day. This takes just 10-15 minutes but keeps the kitchen looking great all week.
- Clean counters and sinks after cooking
- Load the diswasher as I use dishes
- Sweep the floor, especially under eating areas
- Take out the garbage and recycling
- Wipe down appliances if I notice splatters or spills
Doing these small cleans daily prevents messes from building up. It also makes the weekly deep clean much faster and easier.
Make It A Habit
The key to keeping your kitchen spotless is consistency. Make your cleaning schedule a habit like brushing your teeth or making your bed.
Here are some tips:
- Do your daily cleans at the same time each day, like before bed or after dinner
- Stick to your deep clean day, even if you’re busy
- Ask others in your household to pitch in
- Listen to music or podcasts while you clean
- Use checklists to stay on task
- Reward yourself when you complete your cleans
Soon deep cleaning your kitchen weekly will be second nature. A clean kitchen improves your quality of life and sets a positive tone for the rest of the home.
