How To Make Your Bathroom Shine Like New (With Minimal Effort)

A clean, shiny bathroom can make your whole house feel fresh and inviting. But scrubbing a bathroom top to bottom takes a lot of time and elbow grease. The good news is, you don’t have to spend all day cleaning to get your bathroom looking like new. With just a little effort each week, you can maintain a clean, shiny bathroom that you’re proud of.

Quick Daily Cleaning

Keeping up with simple daily cleaning tasks prevents dirt, soap scum, and grime from building up in your bathroom. This takes just a few minutes each day.

Wipe Down Surfaces

Each day, I take a couple minutes to wipe down my bathroom counter and sink with a microfiber cloth. This picks up toothpaste, makeup, hair products, and any other grime that might accumulate. I also quickly wipe down the toilet seat and lid to prevent germs from collecting there.

Tidy Up

I give my bathroom a quick tidying at the end of each day too. Putting away items like makeup, hair tools, and skin care products makes my bathroom feel instantly cleaner. I also pick up any towels or clothes that have been left on the floor. Dealing with these clutter issues daily stops mess from piling up.

Spray the Shower

To prevent soap scum, I spritz my shower walls and glass doors with a daily shower spray cleaner each night. This breaks down oils and residue. In the morning, residue rinses away easily when I take my shower.

Weekly Cleaning

While daily cleaning keeps surfaces tidy, doing a thorough clean each week helps everything shine. Set aside 20-30 minutes for these tasks.

Scrub the Surfaces

Once a week, I scrub my sink, counter tops, toilet, and tub using a multipurpose bathroom cleaner and a soft scrubbing brush. I let the cleaner sit for a few minutes before scrubbing to allow the active ingredients to break down soap scum and grime. Some bonus scrubbing on grout lines and around metal fixtures keeps everything looking like new.

Clean the Mirror and Glass

Bathroom mirrors and glass shower doors can quickly get streaky and spotted. I use a glass cleaner formulated for bathrooms and a lint-free microfiber cloth to get them spotless. I find spraying the cleaner directly onto the cloth yields the best results. Buffing dry with a fresh cloth makes the glass sparkle.

Deep Clean the Toilet

I deep clean the toilet once a week using a foaming toilet cleaner. The thick formula clings to surfaces longer so it can break down stubborn grime and bacteria. I let it sit for 5-10 minutes before scrubbing the bowl. I also wipe down the toilet tank, seat, lid, and base to refresh the whole toilet.

Tackle Tough Spots

For trouble spots like soap buildup and hard water stains, I use cleaning pastes or powders and extra scrubbing. These heavy duty cleaners can handle the toughest grime. A little extra focus on these areas keeps them from becoming a problem.

Monthly Maintenance

Some heavy duty cleaning tasks only need tackling once a month to keep them under control. These maintenance jobs refresh my whole bathroom.

Clean the Showerhead

To remove mineral deposits and buildup, I remove my showerhead monthly and soak it in a bowl of white vinegar for 30 minutes. Then I rinse it under hot water and replace it. I also use a toothbrush to scrub calcium deposits from my shower walls.

Disinfect High-Touch Areas

Germs can lurk in bathrooms, so I disinfect high-touch areas monthly. This includes disinfecting surfaces like faucet handles, light switches, doorknobs, and toilet flushers. I use disinfectant wipes or a bathroom disinfecting spray for a thorough clean.

Clean Out Cabinets and Drawers

Once a month, I remove everything from under my bathroom sink and wipe out the vanity cabinet. I throw away anything that’s expired or that I don’t use. For drawers, I remove items and use a disinfectant spray to wipe out the empty drawers. Doing this monthly prevents clutter and keeps things sanitary.

Scrub the Floors

I set aside time monthly for a thorough scrubbing of my bathroom floors. Sweeping first, I then mop using a bathroom floor cleaner and a microfiber mop head. For grout lines, I use a stiff grout brush to lift out built-up gunk. This makes tile floors look brand new.

Conclusion

With just a few minutes of effort each day, a weekly deep cleaning, and monthly maintenance, I’m able to keep my bathroom shining like new all the time. Consistency is key–sticking to these simple tasks prevents dirt, grime, and soap scum from taking over. A sparkling clean bathroom improves my whole household!
