Kitchen Goddess: Nourishing Home & Body

As I’ve journeyed through life, my relationship with food has been a complex and ever-evolving one. For many years, I viewed eating as a source of shame, guilt, and anxiety – a never-ending battle of deprivation and binging that left me feeling utterly disconnected from my body’s needs. But then, something magical happened. I discovered the Hindu goddess Annapurna, the embodiment of nourishment, and my entire perspective shifted.

Encountering the Goddess of Nourishment

It was during a trip to the Himalayas that I first encountered Annapurna. In a small, unassuming Indian restaurant, I noticed an altar built into the wall, and every day, the workers would pause their busy dinner service to focus their complete attention on this sacred space. As they sang a prayer, offered incense and fresh flowers, a hush fell over the room, and I was utterly mesmerized.

The waiter explained to me that this was Annapurna, the goddess of nourishment, presiding over food and cooking. The concept of a Food Goddess was a revelation to me, as for most of my life, food had been a source of torment – a constant battle of shame, guilt, and self-loathing.
