Out with the Old: Tackle Spring Cleaning Room by Room

Kitchen

The kitchen is often the heart of the home, but it can also be one of the messiest rooms. As I gear up for spring cleaning this year, the kitchen will be my first stop.

To start, I’ll clear all countertops and wipe down surfaces. It’s amazing how much crumbs and dust can accumulate! Next, I’ll clean the inside of the refrigerator and wipe down the exterior. Rotten produce and spilled sauces can leave quite a mess if not cleaned regularly.

The cabinets are my next target. I’ll remove everything from the shelves and wipe them down. It’s a great time to donate or throw away anything past its expiration date or that I don’t use often. Once everything is clean, I’ll reorganize the cabinets so the items I use most are most accessible.

The oven and stovetop will also get special treatment. I’ll use a stove cleaner and some elbow grease to tackle any caked-on grime. For the oven, a good degreaser is a must. These appliances work hard throughout the year and deserve this deep clean!

Lastly, I’ll mop the floors, starting with the hard-to-reach corners and edges. I should probably scrub the baseboards too while I’m down there. A fresh, clean kitchen makes cooking and prepping meals so much more enjoyable.

Living Room

As the main gathering place in my home, the living room tends to get a bit disorganized. This spring, I plan to fully tackle the clutter and create a relaxing space.

First up is clearing all surfaces – coffee tables, side tables, and the mantel. I’ll dust the surfaces and rearrange decor so the space looks intentional. Next I’ll vacuum under furniture and clean any glass surfaces to let more light in.

For the furniture, I’ll vacuum or clean the cushions depending on the material. Fluffing pillows also goes a long way to improving the look! I’ll also remove everything from shelves, dust, and replace only my favorite items in an organized fashion. The same goes for the cabinets and TV stand.

The living room rug will get a refresh too with a good vacuuming – maybe even a steam clean for stains. Washing the windows and window treatments also helps brighten up the space.

Finally, I’ll stand back and do a last survey. I’ll remove any remaining clutter, rearrange furniture, and add small touches like flowers to complete the living room transformation! A clean and welcoming space improves my mood instantly.

Bedroom

Spring is a great time to declutter the bedroom and create a restful retreat. I’m aiming for a space that’s organized and peaceful this season.

I’ll start by stripping the bedding and washing everything – sheets, duvet cover, pillowcases, and blankets. Once they’re clean, I’ll assess if anything needs replacing. Next, I’ll dust ceiling fans, baseboards, and other surfaces that accumulate dust.

For the furniture, I’ll remove everything from dressers, nightstands, and closets and give them a good wipe down. Then I can reorganize clothes and supplies and donate anything I don’t need. I’ll also vacuum under the bed – who knows what collects under there!

If I’m feeling ambitious, I may also steam clean the carpets. But at minimum, I’ll give them a good vacuuming, especially in corners and edges.

To complete the bedroom refresh, I’ll open the windows to circulate fresh air and make the bed with the clean linens. I may also update bedside tables with new lamps, books, or photos for a new look. A clean and restful bedroom helps me start and end each day right!

Bathroom

No spring cleaning is complete without tackling the bathroom. This high-use space tends to see grime, mold, and clutter accumulate rapidly.

I’ll start by cleaning the mirror and vanity – wiping down surfaces and handles and clearing any clutter. Next, I’ll scrub the shower and tub with a mold remover to combat soap scum and mildew. The tiles will get special attention with a grout brush to refresh their appearance.

For the toilet, I’ll break out the disinfecting cleaners to sanitize the bowl, seat, and exterior. I’ll also restock toilet paper and other supplies.

Under the sink is another problem area. I’ll remove everything, toss expired products, wipe down the cabinet, and organize remaining items.

Lastly, I’ll sweep and mop the floor, especially around the toilet and any other grimy areas. The bathroom takes the most elbow grease, but the results are so refreshing!

Conclusion

While spring cleaning each room deeply takes time and effort, the benefits are worth it. The refreshed spaces lift my mood and make home life more pleasant overall. I can also identify problem areas like clutter accumulation or grime buildup and improve habits going forward. With a whole-house deep clean under my belt, I can relax and enjoy the bright, organized rooms I’ve created!
