Get Your Glass Cooktop Spotless and Streak-Free

Having a glass cooktop can be a gorgeous addition to your kitchen, but keeping it clean can feel like a never-ending chore. With daily cooking splatters and baked-on spills, glass cooktops are prone to looking streaky, spotted, and just plain dirty. However, with the right techniques and products, you can get your glass cooktop looking spotless and keep it that way. Here are my tips for cleaning a glass cooktop quickly and efficiently.

Supplies You’ll Need

  • **Glass cooktop cleaner** – Use a store-bought glass cooktop cleaner or make your own with equal parts white vinegar and water.
  • **Soft cloths** – Microfiber cloths work best. Avoid abrasive pads or paper towels.
  • **Razor blade scraper** – Helps gently lift off baked-on food.
  • **Non-abrasive scrubbing pad**

Cleaning a Glass Cooktop Daily

Get into the habit of giving your glass cooktop a quick daily wipe down. This prevents cooktop stains from getting baked on and harder to remove.

Step 1

Wipe the surface with a soft, damp cloth or paper towel to remove any food debris. Avoid abrasive scrubbing at this stage.

Step 2

Spray your cooktop cleaner directly onto the glass surface. Use a circular motion to clean the entire cooktop. Let the cleaner sit for a few minutes to penetrate grease and grime.

Step 3

Wipe clean using a soft microfiber cloth, going with the grain of the cooktop. Buff dry with a clean cloth. Your cooktop should look shiny and free of streaks.

Weekly Deep Cleaning for Glass Cooktops

Once a week, set aside time for a thorough deep cleaning of your glass cooktop. This keeps it looking brand new.

Step 1 – Remove Baked-On Food

Inspect the cooktop for any baked-on spills or burned on food. Carefully scrape these off with a single-edge razor blade held at a 30 degree angle. Take care not to scratch the cooktop surface.

Step 2 – Clean with Cooktop Cleaner

Spray your special glass cooktop cleaner liberally over the surface. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Use a non-abrasive scrub pad dipped in the cleaner to gently loosen stubborn stains. Avoid harsh scrubbing.

Step 3 – Rinse and Dry

Wipe away cleaner with a damp microfiber cloth. Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry with a clean cloth. Inspect closely for any remaining spots or streaks. Repeat cleaning if needed.

Step 4 – Polish

For an extra sparkling finish, polish the dry cooktop with a microfiber cloth. Buff in circles until the glass shines. This helps seal in the cleanliness.

Tips for Keeping a Glass Cooktop Clean

  • Wipe up food spills promptly while cooking. Burnt-on food is hard to remove.
  • Avoid abrasive scrubs and cleaners. They can permanently scratch the cooktop.
  • Vinegar is a great homemade glass cleaner. Mix with equal parts water.
  • Microfiber cloths clean better than paper towels, which can leave lint.
  • Clean your cooktop after it has fully cooled, not while still hot.
  • Use plastic or wooden (not metal) utensils to avoid scratches while cooking.

By deep cleaning weekly and doing quick daily wipes, you can keep your glass cooktop looking immaculate. With some elbow grease and the right products, you’ll have it sparkling in no time. Maintain the shine with daily upkeep.
